oh gosh! people are leaving comments on this blog already!
hmm, now i'm feeling rather sheepish about being so whiny when there are so many nice mommies being ever so supportive and encouraging...thanks saggs! (altho, when I started this blog, i wasn't sure if it was ever going to go public. It started out as a ranting ground for me)
i decided that i needed to change the tone of the blog a little (at least till another mood swing hits me!) so I'm going to write a bit about the nice side of pregnancy.
1. hearing baby's (embryo's?) heartbeat at 7 weeks. it was going 140 a minute (now 175 a minute) and my doc turned the volume on real loud so we could hear the rapid, strong and steady thumps. as they say, it sounds like horses galloping. That has got to be one of the best parts so far, although it wasn't quite tear inducing or earth shattering. I'm quite a bo chup mum i think!
2. Kisu and i going on about baby names. if we have a girl, we jokingly said that we would call her Sung Hye-Kyo, after his fav Korean actress. I don't mind lah, esp. if she looks like her too! (Except that she would definitely face the prospect of #3, below) The other option was to name them after investment banks - Morgan, Stanley, Merrill. The unfortunate 7th child might have to be called Wachovia. Actually, Kisu's Dad will name the child as is Korean custom (remember how Kim Sam Soon detested her grandfather for giving her the name Sam Soon?) but we will pick his/her Christian name.
3. Kisu joking (I hope) about having to lock our child (if it's a girl) up in a dungeon until she turns 18. (before his sister got married, he used to say that her prospective husband would have to go through "7 fiery trials" - whatever they may be - before he could go out with her)
4. Kisu poking around my navel and going "harro, baby!" every once in a while and telling it to "be nice to mommy"
5. Us discussing our (somewhat crazy) expectations of baby's future education. In line with Korean hardcore-ness, baby needs to:
+ Speak English, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Cantonese (all the combined languages we speak)
+ Go for public speaking class (kisu's mom sent him when he was 4)
+ Play the piano, violin, guitar, drums (what he plays, i'm hopeless with music)
+ Sing well because all koreans love karaoke (Karaoke is such a part of Korean life - notice at least 1 Karaoke scene in every K-drama)
+ Learn investment skills (i.e. time value of money etc) from a young age.
+ Learn taekwondo, which is a must for all korean kids
6. Seeing baby ultrasounds. Although I have to say it all still looks quite fuzzy to me, it's nice to see baby growing each time I go to the gynae. Now we can (sorta) make out the head, see the tiny flickering heart and see baby bouncing around inside the amnoitic fluid.
7. Seeing how excited Kisu is to go for pre-natel checkups. He says he's going to "see baby!" It's cute.
