Another place for maternity wear!

Found another place to buy hip (i.e. not mumsy looking) and reasonably priced maternity wear - Dorothy Perkins!

I didn't even know they have a maternity section - was wondering around Marina Square while waiting for hubby to get his haircut and I wandered into the store there. I know it's meant for bigger sized girls and so I usually don't check out the clothes there. But, since I'm actually bigger than I used to, I thought "Why not?" and popped in.
I found this pair of 3/4 cargo pants which were soft, comfy and fit well (and they replicate an exisiting piece of item in my regular wardrobe) for $49 which I thought was a bargain for decent maternity pants! It has stretchy inserts at the sides and adjustable elastic bands on the inside. They had denim cutoffs for the same price too, but I didn't buy 'cos I already have my jeans. The tanks are made of good quality cotton, flattering and come in a variety of colours @ $19 each. I would have bought more but they only had my size in basic black and white, so I got those. I'm so happy because I now have another bottom to wear - I've been confined to dresses mainly (kind of sick of babydolls) until I got my jeans which I now happily wear everywhere!
It's not an awfully huge selection, but they have good basic (casual) stuff and all for very decent prices. I also saw a pretty jersey knit kimono style dress for $79. Only thing is, they don't have many small sizes there. I'm lucky I found items that I wanted in my size but most of the stuff there runs 12 and above. However, they may have run out since it's been a while since the sales started. Thank goodness for UK High Street stores with maternity lines.
========================================================================
The recent trend in voluminous dresses is great for finding maternity clothes that fit, but honestly not all of them work in a sense that they may not look very good on a pregnant figure. The body proportions are just different. These dresses are made with skinny girls in mind. If you're sized such that you could actually fill up the dress, it wouldn't look that great anymore. And if you're like me (short), it's worse - 'cos just imagine a short, round person covered in a shapeless, sack-like dress (can't wear very high heels either for lengthening effect). I would say they're great for when you're starting out - perhaps when the belly isn't that huge yet. But that said, selected pieces can work - one just needs to keep an eye on proportions etc. while trying them out. I'm beginning to find that I prefer a more clingy look (especially around the belly) e.g. I'd rather wear a fitted tank top with my jeans as opposed to a babydoll top as I think it looks more streamlined, and also a little more modern :)

Oh thank you, thank you for this post! I badly need some maternity pants and now I know where to find stuff my size! I normally have a really hard time as I'm really tall and not tiny, especially during pregnancy! Ah, pity I can't fit in dottedline clothes! They're all so small! :P
