Just One More

Just back from the cervix prep. Am in throes of contractions, I think. Feels like a bad tummy ache plus cramps plus backache. But could also be the briyani I had for lunch....hmmm. Anyways.

Today's Schedule:

8.30am: Turn up at clinic for CTG monitoring - 30mins.

9.00am: Doc arrives to check the state of my contractions and baby's heartbeat. Vaginal Examination done (VE) - 1 cm dilated (Yeah!) and she inserts the pessary to prime the cervix. Ouch - imagine long finger nails digging and poking inside you.

9 - 11am: Further monitoring on the CTG to make sure that I'm not ultrasensitive to the drug. I'm reacting to the pessary - more contractions show up on the chart, but the strange thing is that I still can't really feel them. The times that I feel twinges of pain, I check the monitor but the reading is really low! Weird.

11am-2pm: Free to go for lunch and walk around. Kisu and I go to Lucky Prata at Lucky Plaza to try their briyani, which got good reviews in the papers.

2pm: Back at the clinic for another 30min CTG monitoring.

2.30pm: Doc is back to do another VE and insert a 2nd pessary.

2.30 - 4.45pm: Continued monitoring on the CTG.

5pm: Consultation with doc - she tells us tht baby's head has descended even lower and the cervix is softening. Dilation remains at 1cm. My contractions are increasing, but still irregular. I ask if these are still considered as Braxton Hicks contractions, but doc says No, they are the start of proper labour contractions.

I'm told to admit myself tomorrow morning at 7.30am, or if I naturally go into labour (in doc's words: "if you feel unbearable pain") this evening, to rush myself down to the hospital.

I have a photo of myself hooked up to the CTG machine, but am in pain so I'm not going to upload it now. Will upload later.

Good luck. We're all waiting with baited breath.

I'd give you sage advice but I remember when I was in the throes of labour and not very welcoming of any sort of advice so...

Good luck. THe pilates should come in handy.
