Pre Pop-page Shopping

Am very thankful..the girl has been good and not come earlier than expected. Which has given me time to sort out most of the stuff I needed to before delivery (work, personal etc).

I even managed to get my pedicure done today, which I thought I wouldn't have time for. Decided to forgo any reddish hues (reminds me too much of blood given what I'm about to go through) and opted for a nice soothing pearly shade instead. Ang Moh lady next to me must have decided that it was quite nice too - she changed her mind about her pedicure colour and pointed to my feet telling the girl that she wanted That One.

Post lunch at Vivo, wandered into TopShop. Think I've been shopping-starved lately - feel like there's no point in buying new clothes now since I'm not sure what post preggers shape and boob size will be, but I couldn't resist checking out bags and shoes.

Well, not only did I end up with a new bag and jacket, I also couldn't say no to the Top Shop Mini collection for baby. The jeans were on discount ($26 down from $36); I already have a pair from Old Navy but I figure you can never go wrong with another pair of jeans (apparently my shopping mantras are now going to extend to baby as well) The tops were not on sale but I thought they were priced OK.

The bag was a huge dove grey tote in a lovely soft leather - my rationale for buying is that it can double up as diaper bag, no?

And the jacket was a cropped sleeve, peter pan collar in a nice chambray - actually quite reminescent of my Cropped Tweed Jacket but more A-line-ish. Guess I'm a sucker for cropped jackets and peter pan collars.

Not only did I spend enough at TopShop to make me a member, I then proceeded to Zara and plonked down good cash for two dresses - same design, different colour. They were V neck babydoll jersey dresses which I imagine (I hope!) I can nurse in. You can pull the front panels aside quite easily. Right now, because of the bump, the dress hitches up real short in front, making me look quite the slutty mama in them but they'll be just fine once baby is out (hopefully most of the bump will subside by then!)

On the topic of post pregnancy wear, I'm pretty bummed about the prospect of having to wear nursing wear. If nice maternity outfits are hard to find here, I think nursing wear is even worse. (And wait till you see the nursing bras!) At least the current fashion trend is quite maternity wear friendly.

But what does one do for nursing tops? I bought some from Spring maternity - they are just simple knit tops to tide me over but nothing fantastic. I'm going to have to figure out some alternative to actual nursing tops/dresses which are quite horrid, in my opinion. I'm told that I can try twinsets, wrap tops or baby doll tops. Need to experiment and see what works. I was wondering if I'd actually be desperate enough to resort to expressing milk in a bid to wear normal clothes!

hey dot - I love your blog and am feeling very excited about your daughter's upcoming birth! I pray you have a safe delivery! On your topic on nursing tops/wear...I have successfully nursed 2 of my kids without owning one nursing top/dress..so I reckon you can too! But you most probably need a good nursing bra...I recommend you check out the padded lace-trimmed nursing bra from momsinmind.com.sg. It's pretty and comfy enuf; not distasteful like some others! :)

Like pinktoes, I nursed both my girls without wearing nursing clothes. I'd bought 2 nursing tops but I found a normal top easier to handle. Tell me about nursing bras. They look so ugly right?! But I found some really pretty ones from Mothercare in UK, not sure if they carry them in Singapore though but do have a look.

I thought I saw you at Vivo earlier yesterday but I wasn't sure as both you and I were walking fast past each other in opposite directions.

I have about 4 nursing tops because I nurse on the go (& not only in nursing rooms) that are just functional but not exactly show stoppers and I've worn them to death. Recently I got sick of them and bought 2 baby doll tops online from ON and I wear a nursing spaghetti top underneath so that my body doesn't show.

A sling or pouch is a great way to wear normal clothes and nurse without exposing yourself too much.
