Mei- Jie

Ellis & Mei Jie

She's gone.

Mei-jie, our confinement nanny left us on Christmas Eve, a few days short of her expected date of departure due to some visa issues.

This is the lady who would call Ellis by her Chinese name, sing to her, find pretty clothes to dress her up in - and take the effort to lull her to sleep, even if it took a hour of her time at 4 in the morning - way longer than I, her mother, would have tolerated.

I was particularly sad to see her go - not because I was worried about coping with Ellis without her around - no, it was her motherly presence that I would miss.

Thank you, Mei-jie.

I missed my Aunty too. I cried when she left. Yes, because suddenly the twins were thrust into my extremely unexperienced hands but also because she had been a wonderful person to have around and she loved the twins. I wrote about it sometime back and reading it still makes me miss her.

But we learn, we get on with life and we secretly wish for another baby so Aunty can come back.
