Busy Busy!

I've been busy getting into the swing of pregnancy - I'm certainly feeling a lot more maternal these days. I've been looking at babies more when I'm out, especially newborns, and I actually bought a mothering magazine (Mother & Baby)!!!

I think it's a combination of feeling the baby move and the sight of my growing belly. So I'm much more keen on finding out more about baby and pregnancy, shopping for baby stuff, doing research and reading up in general.

(At one point, I wanted to create a post called "The bochup mum" as testament to my lack of maternal instinct - but never got round to it. For any first time mum-to-bes out there who are worried about the lack of maternal instinct, I wouldn't worry too much about it, looks like everything falls into place in due time).

+ Pre-natal Pilates Started classes at Sky Pilates with Karen (who's 1.5 weeks ahead of me) this past Saturday. I found out about Sky through Ondine's blog - I've never done any pilates before so I was worried about having wobbly knees etc after the class, but it was very gentle stretching, toning and resistance training. About 7 mummies there and we worked mostly with the Reformer machines.

+ Thomson Medical Centre's Childbirth Education Course - Signed up at the recommendation of Kisu's colleague, who's 7 months pregnant. It's a 6 week course taught by the famous Mrs Wong Boi Boi (must request for her class, she's the best, we were told) and we start in September.

+ Singapore Motherhood.com - have been hooked (sort of) on this forum ever since I accidentally chanced upon it one day while trying to research breast pumps. There are topics that range from practical (advice on breast pumps, post natal massage and slimming), sad (husband ignoring baby), controversial ('Abort or Not?') to weird ('Advice on how to get pregnant without sex') Tons of information in there if you bother to read through very very long threads. There are even threads on couples trying to conceive, support groups for those with fertility problems, and women who have suffered miscarriages.

+ Baby Goods Shopping: Have been checking out baby departments at Taka, Robinsons, shops at Paragon etc - dragged poor Kisu through them numerous times. Thought I'd take advantage of the GSS while it's still on. I bought a breastpump (Medela, 15% off) and sterilizer (Pigeon) after extensive reading and research on the web (Still can't decide on a stroller option, Kisu and I are stumped)

+ Collecting Hand-Me-Downs: Gladys has passed me lots of baby stuff, including receiving blankets, changing mats, rockers, etc and some reading material on breastfeeding/childcare/labour & delivery.

My next checkup is tomorrow and I hope we find out the gender this trip - I haven't been able to buy any cute baby clothes yet! So far, all the baby clothes I've seen seem to be either pink or blue, if not very obviously "boy" or "girl" oriented - e.g. floral prints or something similar.

And finally, I leave you with something that's been on my mind lately:
Placentas - to eat or not to eat???
Cassandra See, the ex-TCS actress, very famously ate hers (baked, pounded it and put it into little capsules) and attests to glowing results. I kind of think it's a waste to let it go since it's so nutritious, but after seeing a photo of one, I'm slightly disturbed......BTW, Kisu has nicknamed the aforesaid organ "Placky", and the umbilical cord, "Umby" as he says they are baby's best friends now.

I couldn't eat my placenta, not after I saw it come out of me. Have you seen one???!!! If interested, I can show you a pix of mine. Heh heh...

Prams prams prams. I hear Graco is good (but rather heavy?). I like my Maclaren. I still say - not too bulky or heavy. Will be chore to bring out.

yep, seen it in a childbirth book that I just got. Gross leh! Usually it's described as looking like liver, but I think it's much worse. What's with the membrane-y thing on the outside?!

hey, remember to get a car seat for bringing baby home & around. graco has travel systems - a baby bucket car seat that clicks securely into the stroller.

have to warn you though, most babies hate being in a car seat initally & they can cry throughout the car ride (my little guy did). but once they are resigned to it, the ride usually sends them to dreamland. now the little man knows to climb in the seat before we go anywhere. :)

oh Mrs Wong Boi Boi is one of the best around. i went to see her too when i was pregnant. i was very grateful that she gave me a free short consultation despite her busy schedule.

this book WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU ARE EXPECTING is a popular book that expecting mothers read.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/089480829X/ref=sib_dp_pt/102-7300797-1030507#reader-link

can be found in major bookstores like TIMES / POPULAR. it explain every single stage of pregnancy from the 1st mth to after labour.

every symptom you can imagine is featured in this book.

i saw on TV some time back. a mother who is a practicing Chinese Physician kept the placenta. dried it and use it as medicine for the child. when she needs it, she would slice off a tiny bit, grind it into powder and use it to brew into some concoction and she claimed it works wonders. how she dry it in a manner that would not attract flies, i am not sure cos she did not go into details. not sure if a mother who just given birth asked to keep the placenta, what would the hospital says.
