Buying for Baby

This weekend was a big baby shopping weekend for us. So far, we've got the essential big ticket items like the crib and stroller, but not the little things like nursing aids, baby toiletries, nappy pins, etc etc.

Armed with the Takashimaya Maternity & Baby checklist - useful little thing you can get from the cashier counter at the Taka Baby dept - we went round to a variety of baby stores (Mothercare, Motherswork, Kiddy Palace, Robinsons, etc) to pick up the remaining items.

By the end of the day, we had about 95% of everything we needed. I'm still short of a couple like the bathtub, bumper pads, nursing bras and bath towels, but it's a real load off my mind.

One of the reasons why it's taking a long time is because I (and to a certain extent Kisu) am picky about the designs of the baby items. I suppose it's an occupational hazard. I find it hard to find tasteful baby items that would not look out of place in an "adult" decor. I prefer items that are plain, and quite simple, but usually what I see are splashed with teddy bears or the like.

When I do find something I think is nice, it usually costs an arm and a leg. I saw a pretty range of cot bedding and bumpers at robinsons, but when I checked the pricetag, it was $170! Just for crib bumpers! Oh my.

Another item I've been on the lookout for is a baby mobile. I had seen a classic Winnie-the-Pooh one featured in a recent issue of Mother & Baby, and was set on getting it, although it was a tad pricey. But when I went to buy it, the girl in the shop said that it was all sold out and there was not going to be more new stock.

I started looking elsewhere for mobiles, but couldn't find anything that caught my eye. So imagine my surprise when I happened to drop by the same shop (different branch) and saw the mobile I wanted on display! Bought it immediately of course - and set it up on the cot too :)

Kisu and I concluded that it's a mobile for the parents - honestly, when I put my head down on the cot mattress (where baby's would be) all I see is Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore's behinds.

you look great in the dress; that is a look known as 'yummy mummy'! :)

hey, remember to get a car seat too. the way some s'poreans drive (re: shermaine's encounter), take defensive action.
